FAR 91.1501 — Continued Airworthiness Purpose
FAR 91.1501 explains the purpose of Subpart K's continued airworthiness rules for fractional ownership operators. Study guide for pilots and checkrides.
FAR 91.1501 sets the purpose of the continued airworthiness subpart that applies to fractional ownership program operators. In short, it tells operators they are responsible for keeping each airplane in the program airworthy over time — not just at the moment of delivery or the last inspection.
To meet that responsibility, operators may have to take actions such as:
- Revising the inspection program to address new findings or service experience
- Incorporating design changes mandated by the manufacturer or FAA
- Incorporating revisions to the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) issued by the type certificate holder
Why it matters operationally: as a pilot flying under a fractional program, you depend on the operator's continued airworthiness process to ensure the airplane you preflight is supported by current inspections, mandatory updates, and current maintenance instructions. Paragraph (b) is Reserved, so it carries no current requirement.
