FAR 91.1033 Required Operating Information

FAR 91.1033 lists the checklists, charts, and emergency procedures program managers must provide pilots in fractional ownership program operations.

In Plain English

FAR 91.1033 applies to fractional ownership program operations under Subpart K. It requires the program manager to make sure certain materials are current, accessible at the pilot station, and actually used by the pilot.

The required materials are:

  • A cockpit checklist
  • An emergency cockpit checklist for multiengine aircraft or aircraft with retractable landing gear
  • At least one set of pertinent aeronautical charts
  • For IFR operations, at least one set of pertinent en route, terminal area, and instrument approach procedure charts

The normal cockpit checklist must cover before starting engines, before takeoff, cruise, before landing, after landing, and stopping engines.

The emergency checklist must cover, as appropriate, emergency operation of fuel, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, emergency operation of instruments and controls, engine inoperative procedures, and any other emergency procedures necessary for safety.

Operationally, this rule ensures crews always have the right reference material on board and use standardized procedures to handle both normal and abnormal situations.

Oral Exam Questions a DPE Might Ask
Q1Under fractional ownership operations, what operating information must the program manager provide to the pilot?
Per FAR 91.1033, the program manager must provide a current cockpit checklist, an emergency cockpit checklist for multiengine or retractable-gear aircraft, pertinent aeronautical charts, and—for IFR operations—en route, terminal area, and instrument approach charts, all accessible at the pilot station.
Q2What phases of flight must the normal cockpit checklist cover?
FAR 91.1033(b) requires the cockpit checklist to include procedures for before starting engines, before takeoff, cruise, before landing, after landing, and stopping engines.
Q3What must be included in the emergency cockpit checklist?
FAR 91.1033(c) requires, as appropriate, emergency operation of fuel, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems; emergency operation of instruments and controls; engine inoperative procedures; and any other emergency procedures necessary for safety.
