MU-2B Training Approval

FAR 91.1709 MU-2B Training Approval

FAR 91.1709 explains how MU-2B training programs get FAA approval, the 24-month validity for Part 91 providers, and revision and inspection requirements.

In Plain English

FAR 91.1709 sets the rules for how an MU-2B training program gets approved by the FAA. If you're training to fly the Mitsubishi MU-2B, the course you take must come from a provider whose curriculum has been formally signed off by the Administrator — no shortcuts, no homemade syllabi.

Key points:

  • Submission required: Training providers must submit their proposed program to the Administrator to get approval.
  • Approved programs only: Only FAA-approved programs count toward meeting the standards in this subpart.
  • 24-month validity: For Part 91 training providers, an approved program is good for 24 months unless it's superseded or rescinded sooner.
  • FAA can require revisions: The Administrator may order changes to an approved program at any time.
  • Documentation on demand: Providers must show their approved program and FAA approval paperwork to any FAA representative on request.

Why it matters operationally: the MU-2B has a unique accident history that led to a special, standardized training rule. Verifying your provider holds a current FAA approval protects both your certificate and your insurability.
